Cyveillance Adds Image and Logo Recognition Capabilities To Its Anti-Phishing and Internet Brand Monitoring Solutions
Solution detects online fraud when no text-based references
to the brand are present
Arlington, VA, March 2, 2005 – Cyveillance®, the leading provider of online risk monitoring and management solutions, announced today the availability of image recognition capabilities for detecting phishing sites, brand abuse, unwanted brand associations, and other forms of corporate identify theft. If a brand is being misused or misrepresented anywhere on the Internet, in text or image-based formats, this new Cyveillance capability will rout it out and identify it.
Corporate identify theft schemes and phishing attacks (phishing is the practice of gathering personal information, including passwords and credit data, through deception, usually via e-mail) use well-known brand names to seemingly legitimize their scams and exploit the trust of unsuspecting consumers. The appearance of a trusted and familiar logo on a fraudulent web site or within a phishing-related email message often compels an unsuspecting consumer to divulge valuable information. Once in the hands of criminals, the consumer’s personal information is often used to commit other fraudulent acts such as identity theft or remove funds directly from bank accounts.
Fraudsters continually develop more sophisticated techniques that outsmart text-based anti-fraud technologies used to uncover phishing attacks. To address this tactic, Cyveillance has coupled its industry-leading Internet monitoring technology with proven image recognition technology from LTU Technologies, the global leader in image search and recognition systems. Through continuous monitoring of Internet content—both semantically and graphically—Cyveillance clients are immediately alerted of new online scams involving their identity.
“Cyveillance is committed to continually raising the bar for anti-phishing, online brand monitoring, threat and fraud management,” said Panos Anastassiadis, CEO of Cyveillance. “We’re excited to be adding image recognition capabilities to our line of Internet risk monitoring and management solutions, especially a proven technology that has been so widely adopted in law enforcement. It will provide a truly unique solution for fighting phishing, fraud, and brand abuse.”
LTU Technologies is an award-winning provider of image recognition software whose clients include the FBI, U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement, and the French Patent Office. The technology identifies images on the Internet that have been modified, altered, or cropped.
Image recognition is available immediately in the Cyveillance Brand Protection and Cyveillance Fraud Management solutions. For more information, visit Cyveillance at www.cyveillance.com or call 1-888-243-0097.
